Retreat Description.

On this two-day retreat, we have the opportunity to increase our lifespan, merit and wisdom, through the special meditation practice of Buddha Amitayus. Our human life is our most precious possession because it gives us the opportunity to improve ourself and attain the supreme happiness of enlightenment. We therefore need a long and healthy life.

To engage successfully in spiritual practice we also need wisdom, as well as the merit or good fortune that gives our mind the strength to support the growth of inner realizations. Amitayus is the Buddha of long life, merit, and wisdom. By engaging in Amitayus practice, we can develop these qualities and eventually attain the deathless state of enlightenment. We can also use this practice to help remove obstacles that endanger the lives of others, especially our close friends and family.

The retreat will begin with an introductory talk by Gen Kelsang Rabten at 7.30pm on Friday 23 February. On Saturday and Sunday there are three retreat sessions, each consisting of chanted prayers and silent mantra recitation. All those attending the retreat will receive blessed long life pills.

Gen Kelsang Rabten is the Resident Teacher of KMC Australia and KMC Melbourne. Ordained in 1994, he has studied under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for 30 years. Gen Rabten embodies the modern Kadampa way of life and shares Buddha’s teachings with warmth and joy.
